Silk is a delicate fabric that requires gentle care to maintain its luster and texture. Follow these steps for proper cleaning:

1. Check the care label: Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions first. Some silk items may be labeled “dry clean only.”

2. Hand wash (preferred):

– Use cold or lukewarm water (never hot, as it can shrink or damage silk).
– Add a mild, pH-neutral detergent (avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh soaps).
– Submerge the item gently and swish it around for 3–5 minutes. Do not twist or scrub vigorously.

3. Rinse thoroughly: Drain the soapy water and rinse with cold water until no soap remains.

4. Dry properly:
– Lay the silk flat on a clean, dry towel and roll it up to absorb excess water (do not wring).
– Unroll and reshape the item, then lay it flat on a drying rack away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

5. Iron if needed: Use a low-heat setting (silk or delicate) and iron while the fabric is slightly damp, or place a clean cloth between the iron and silk to prevent damage.

Avoid machine washing unless the care label explicitly allows it, and even then, use a gentle cycle with a mesh bag to protect the fabric.
